Since founding HK Industrial in 2020 with her husband and business partner, Steven, Heather has focused on designing and producing practical gear tailored to the needs of workers in mining, construction, and other demanding industries. The company’s best-known product, the Big Yella™ backpack, was developed through direct feedback from workers and has since become a staple on job sites across Canada.

Heather’s approach is simple: listen closely to the people using the products, build with quality in mind, and keep manufacturing as local as possible. Most HK Industrial products are proudly made in Northern Ontario, reflecting her commitment to the community.

When she’s not sketching new designs or collaborating with industry partners like Covergalls, Heather is an active member of Nickel City Roller Derby, where she channels her energy into building community, teamwork, and the occasional hard hit on the track.

His background in the electrical and project management field gives him a deep understanding of the challenges workers face in demanding environments — insight that directly shapes HKI’s innovative products.

When he’s not working on new designs or collaborating with industry partners, Steven can often be found sailing on Lake Ramsey, volunteering with the Sudbury Yacht Club, or training in the gym. His commitment to both the community and continuous improvement drives the ethos of HK Industrial: Safety’s in the Bag.
